A Little Girl
A little girl who never knew love.
She was losing hope with every shove.
She played pretend and put on a crown,
She swore she’d live in a castle when she got out.
Then came the voices, they start to whisper
They give advice to her
“Grow up too fast
And trust real slow.
Always block out the past,
It’s just a game, just a show.”
That little girl grew up too fast,
She trusted too slow.
She didn’t remember the past,
She bit off more than she could chew.
She listens to the voices, they still whisper
They give advice to her
“Love too fast
And trust real slow.
Never bring up the past,
It’s just a game, just a show.”
That girl became a broken teenager,
She didn’t care what people thought of her.
She always loved too quickly and loved wrong,
She wrote about the past, poems and songs.
She hears the voices, they still whisper
They give advice to her
“Put up your guard too fast
And be happy real slow.
Blame yourself for the past,
It’s just a game, just a show.”
That teenager became a hurting adult,
She always thought it was her fault.
She acted happy and it was hard,
She always tried to hide her broken heart.
She hates the voices, they still whisper
They give bad advice to her
“Let go too fast
And trust real slow.
Stop living in the past,
It’s just a game, just a show.”
That adult became a lonely old lady,
She was getting much sicker lately.
She had let him go too fast,
If only she had trusted him in the past.
That little girl was never loved.
She was the teenager who was shoved,
The adult who walks with her head down,
And the old woman who died alone.
She was losing hope with every shove.
She played pretend and put on a crown,
She swore she’d live in a castle when she got out.
